Our organization strives to provide excellence in educational programs and services
and remain committed to enriching the lives of youth and families.

During the summer months, when youth are on vacation and away from school, many tend to forget the scholastic skills learned during the regular school year. Summertime marks the season when youth experience an overwhelming loss in academic gains. This loss of academic achievement over the course of the summer has often been characterized by researchers as, “Summer Learning Loss.”

Recently, however, the Covid-19 pandemic has created the largest disruption of educational systems in human history affecting nearly 1.6 billion learners in more than 190 countries and all continents (United Nations Sustainable Development Group, August 2020). With school closures, the Covid-19 pandemic severely affected the traditional flow and delivery of academic instructions. For several months during the 2020-2021 school years, many students and teachers were forced to abandon their classroom; the conventional learning approach – and adapt to learning remotely through the internet. This sudden disruption in learning created a negative impact on the achievement gains made by students prior to the pandemic. This loss of academic achievement has become widely regarded as student “Learning Loss.”

Consequentially, these youth return to school struggling academically and requiring a significant amount of review once school begins. A host of research demonstrates that most adolescents lose up to one month in reading achievement during the summer break with disadvantaged youth being disproportionately affected, losing up to two months of reading achievement (Cooper, H. Charlton, K., Valentine, J.C., and Muhlenbruck, L., 2000).

Similarly, early data indicate that students in the U.S. are likely to have suffered up to nine months of learning loss in math by the end of the academic year because of disruptions caused by the pandemic, and students of color could be as many as twelve months behind (Reilley, K., December, 2020).

In our effort to help youth excel academically during out-of-school periods, Vision and Partnership Groups emphasizes the continuity in learning; keeping youth connected to an educational environment, activities, resources, and guided-supervision.
